There is no doubt that weight loss is a major challenge to look and feel good for many people worldwide. Most of us are not aware about the various side effects of losing weight. To mention a few, the effects after shedding a significant amount of calories include stretch marks, hanging skin, increase fatigue and low vitality. Skin Nourishment: Skin nourishment and proper skin care are very essential to increase the elasticity of the skin. After achieving the ideal weight, one should apply a good moisturizer and exfoliate skin regularly. Moisturizer helps in rejuvenating the skin to retain its natural elasticity, while exfoliation removes the dead skin cells. Keeping the skin healthy aids in natural skin tightening.
Saltwater Bath: Saltwater bath is another remedy to tighten skin after weight loss. Dissolve about ½ pound of salt in lukewarm water and soak the body. Scrub the skin with a loofah to get rid of the dead cells. This leads to relaxation of the body muscles along with removal of skin toxins, which in turn helps in toning the skin.
Weight Training: While performing regular exercise, one should include weight training for tightening loose skin after weight loss. Weight training program for at least three times in a week helps in firming the tissues underneath the skin, thus increasing muscles for adherence to the loose skin.
Herbal Remedy: Massaging the affected skin areas with aloe vera gel aids in increasing the skin elasticity. Other effective herbal remedies to tighten skin after weight loss are soy protein, yeast extract and spirulina tablets. Taking appropriate amounts of these supplements along with a healthy diet increases the synthesis of elastin and collagen in the body.
Surgical Procedure: Surgical procedure for tightening skin after weight loss should be considered as the last option, when there are some complications like skin irritation and infections. In most cases, cosmetic surgery known as skin lift is performed to lift and tighten loose skin at various body sites. For tightening skin only at the abdominal portion, abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a preferred choice.
One should be patient and wait for at least two years after achieving the ideal weight. Since skin is a living component, it has an ability to restore its original shape. Speaking about the diet plan to tighten skin after weight loss, one should avoid fatty foods, processed carbohydrates and refined sugars. The diet should include ample amounts of foods high in protein. Consuming fresh raw foods like tomato, cucumber and coconut also helps in tightening loose and hanging skin. Last but not the least, drinking adequate amount of water is a must to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.
