The Significance of Water for your Well Being
Written by Mike Cohen

It is well known the fact that without water we die. Unfortunately, not everybody knows that a proper consum of water can improve our lifestyle. Next to oxygen, water is by far the next most important necessity for the continuous life of mankind. It’s the best thing Mother Nature can offer to us. It fuels our body by interacting with other body parts like the kidneys in cleansing our body system.

Did you know that the human brain contains 85% water? When the brain needs water takes what it needs from other parts of your body in order to survive. This means that other parts of the body which also need water start having problems.

Did you know that water flow controls the temperature of your body? When your body gets too hot, it sweats, releasing water which cools your body. When you do not drink enough water your body loses its ability to cool itself off when necessary.

Did you know that water helps clean the stomach and helps digestion? Anything added to the water you drink, even such things as lemon juice, tea or coffee will cause the stomach muscle to close. The stomach walls then release enzymes along with other gastric juices so that they can break down what has been added to the water.

Did you know that drinking water between your meals helps to flush your stomach of the small, trapped pieces of food?

Did you know that water helps clean the small intestine? It's like after eating a meal you wash your dishes and rinse them.

Did you know that constipation is a symptom of dehydration? In order to maintain the proper water balance in your body, water is moved in and out of the large intestine. If your body is short of water you may get constipated. Friendly bacteria helps the water move into the waste in the large intestine to soften it so you don't have to strain. When you do not drink enough water, your food moves slowly through your intestines. You may become constipated and the toxins remaining in your large intestine may be absorbed back into your bloodstream.

Did you knew that your body cannot allow any fluid to be lost if it's dehydrated? It will draw the fluids it needs from your large intestine. Remember, the brain functionality, the brain controls where the water goes and the intestines are not on the highest priority list. However, now your intestines are becoming a self poisoning cesspool of fecal matter and hemorrhoids will just be a little problem to a more serious condition inside your body.

Did you know that water helps you to maintain your weight control and lose weight? One glass of water before meal supress the appetite. Water is filler. Do this before each meal and you will see the weight drop. If you feel like snacking have a glass of water instead. Water doesn’t have any traces of calories, it is considered as the best source of nutrients for our body.

Did you know that each day our body needs to replenish at least 2.3 liters of water? Water is universally important, both to human beings and the environment as well.

Is Salad the Best Diet Food?
Written by Jessica Smith

Everybody knows salads are healthy, right? People who are on a diet often opt for entrée salads, whether they're eating out or at home. But the truth is that a salad is not always your best calorie bet.

Consider: A chicken Caesar salad at Chili’s (loaded with salad dressing, croutons, cheese, and chicken) will set you back 1,010 calories and 76 grams of fat. On the other hand, a Chick-fil-A chargrilled chicken garden salad with fat-free honey mustard dressing has only 230 calories and 6 grams fat.

It's the fixings that make the difference when it comes to salad calories. If you're going to pile on the croutons, creamy dressing, cheese, bacon, avocado, mayonnaise-rich prepared salads (like coleslaw), meat, nuts, fried chicken strips, and wonton strips, you might as well order a double bacon cheeseburger and fries.

So what makes a diet-friendly salad? For a healthy salad, start with a variety of colorful veggies, fruits, beans, and mixed greens. When possible, opt for dark, leafy greens like arugula, spinach, and fresh herbs. (The darker the leaf, the more nutritional goodness it has.) Then, pile on grape tomatoes, shredded carrots, cabbage, broccoli, jicama, scallions, mushrooms, red bell peppers, roasted vegetables, or your other favorite vegetables.

For a filling entree salad, add small amounts of low-fat cheese or lean protein like grilled chicken, shrimp, or hard-cooked egg. Top off your salad with a small amount of avocado or chopped nuts to add some healthy fat. (Keep in mind that you need to control portions of healthful but high-calorie items like dried fruits, nuts, cheese, olives, and avocado).

But we're not done yet: Salad dressing can spell disaster if you use too much of the wrong kind. For a lower-calorie salad, dress with a tablespoon or two of light vinaigrette or salsa, or a flavorful vinegar (like balsamic) along with a little heart-healthy olive oil. If you love creamy dressing, try diluting it with a little water or vinegar -- or simply use less of it. A tried-and-true dieter’s trick is to order salad dressing on the side, then just dip the tines of your fork into the dressing before you grab each forkful of salad.

Follow these tips to create or order a delicious salad that is satisfying, low in calories, high in fiber, and full of nutrients.
