The Ayurveda medicines are classified into different categories as per the usages, their sources, preparation methods and the properties. Commonly they are divided into herbal and mineral based. Further this can be more subdivided into several groups like herbal are divided into herbs, shrubs, trees, and climbers. The minerals are classified into metallic and nonmetallic categories. Adding more to it the animal preparation is also there. These are derived from the animals. Apart from this Ayurveda defines the medicines as divinely, humanly, and demon. This means the spiritual ways of treatment, the medicine based treatments and the surgery based treatments. Like this the medicines are classified. Comparing it with the modern pharmacy the Ayurveda text are having more then 1800 action words that are supposed to have meaning of specific pharmacological effects described in the Ayurveda related text. They also classify the medicines in more then 1200 types upon the basis their specific functions.
