Ayurveda is the oldest traditional medicine system of the world that developed in India. It is deemed to be the fifth Veda (there are 4 Vedas that are the sources of Indian intellectual and spiritual texts). It is said to be 5000 to 3000 years old but the oldest documented references about Ayurveda are about 3000 years old as per the referential evidence found in different text of that times and 1700 to 1100 years as per the text references.
This system of medicine is based upon the use of herbs and other natural drugs. The basic principles of the Ayurveda are dependent up on the balance of basic entities found in the body and mind. The drugs are used to maintain homeostasis of the basic entities either by eliminating the causing factors/impurities of by suppressing them at the beginning. The Ayurveda contains all aspects of medicines like the psychiatric practices, surgery, medicine, as well as its unique panchakarma therapy.
