Some Ayurvedic medicines are palatable e.g. Chyavanprash, Haridra Khanda etc. but why are some medicines given in higher dosage?

Usually medicines prepared from herbal sources need to be given in comparatively higher dosage because crude drugs are used for the preparation of medicines as compared with the extracted chemical or synthetic drugs in modern system of medicine or rasousadhis (metal, mineral based medicines) of Ayurveda.
