Amal Pitta (Hyper Acidity)

Definition
It is defined as excessive production of hydrochloric acid in the gastric secretion. Excessive fluid intake or liquid dilute the digestive juices. Hence semi digestion of food occur and organic acid is formed which stimulate oxyntic and parietal cells of stomach to release more Hydro Chloric Acid.
Life Style Leading to Hyper acidity
1. Stress and strain.
2. Anxiety
3. Increased acid secretion due to spice food or fried food intake.
4. Alcohol and smoking
5. Bland and junk food.
6. Sour food like pickle, chatani, sour fruits.
7. Carbohydrate rich diet which is not digested properly and remain for a long time in G.I.T. where the process of fermentation occur by which acid is produced and few gases are released.
8. Excessive fluid intake.
Symptoms
Sour eructation
Water brash
Flatulence
Indigestion
Discomfort in epigastric region
Nausea
Vomiting
Dyspepsia
Anorexia

General Treatment

Avoid the life style like stress, tension, alcohol smoking, spicy food etc. leading to hyper acidity.
2. Samshodhana
Emesis and purgatives measures are used for proper cleansing of dosas through upper and lower passages. For this purpose the formulation used is decoction of patol leaves, nimb leaves and madanphal kalk along with honey.
3. Samshamana
a) Churna - Haritaki Churna, Triphla Churna, Amlaki Churna, Madhuyashti Churna, Drakshadi Churna, Abipattikar Churna Nishoth Churna
b) Decoctions - Patoladi decoction
c) Avleha - Kushmand avleha, Udumbar avleha, Dadhim avleha.
d) Ghrita - Narayana ghrita, Dadhim ghrita, vasa ghrita
e) Bhasma - Makshik bhasma, Abhrak bhasma, Shank bhasma, Prabal bhasma, Mandur bhasma
f) Taila - Shribilbadi taila
g) Khand - Narikel khand, Kushmand khand
h) Rasayana - Amalaki rasayana, Shatabri rasayana
i) Single drugs used - Amlaki, Shatabri, Bhringraj, Patol, Madhuyashti

Certain Ayurvedic Formulations used

1. Amal pittantak loh - 250 mg
Sutshekhar rasa - 125 mg
Kamdudha rasa - 125 mg
Shankha bhasma - 250 mg
This is to be taken with honey 2 times a day.

2. Isabgol - 1 tbs
Saunff Churna - ½ tbs
Mishri - 1 ½ tbs.
All taken together with one glass of water for 1-2 months.

3. Shatabri Churna - 1 tbs.
Trifla Churna - 1 tbs
Taken together with milk.

4. Leela vilas rasa - 500 mg
Sutshekhar rasa - 125 mg
Amlaki Churna - 3 gm
Taken together along with honey and ghee two times a day.

5. Prabal panchamrit - 500 mg
Makshik bhasm - 400 mg
Abhrak bhasma - 250 mg
Taken with milk 3 times a day.

Pathya
1. Dravya like Isabgol, mishri, saunff, ambla.
2. Drinking lot of water.
3. Fruits like anar, khajur, nariyal, cheeku etc.
4. Always try to avoid constipation.
5. Eat light and easily digestable food.

Apathya 1. Heavy oily spicy food, excessive tea and coffee etc.
2. Alcohol, cigarette smoking, tobacco etc.
