Diarrhea

Diarrhea is defined as passage of abnormally liquid on unformed stools at an increased frequency. Normal stool frequency shows considerable variability in different parts of world, and ranges between three times per day to three times per week. Western date suggest that a stool weight in excess of 200gm/data can generally be considered as diarrhoea, where as Indian data define the upper limit as 300gm/day largely due to the increased roughage in vegetarian diets.

Classification

On the basis of duration of symptoms, diarrhoea can be classified into

  1. Acute (if <2 week)
  2. Persistent (if 2 to 4 weeks)
  3. Chronic (if >4 weeks)

Firstly one should abstain from food and take digestive remedy at the end of fasting, light and thinly liquid diet should be taken.
In case three is thirst, water processed with

  1. Balaka and sunthi 12-12gm
  2. Musta and parpata 12-12gm
  3. Musta and balaka 12-12gm should be given

Pathya

In diarrhoea, liquid processed with drugs and parched paddy flour, rice scum strained through cloth and lentil soup are wholesome. Water processed with dhanyaka and balaka allays thirst burning sensation and diarrhoea. These 2 along with patha should be used to process food.

Khadayusa and Kampalika

Butter milk cooked with Kapitha, cangere, marica, jiraka and utraka is called khadayusa. The same is known as kambalika when soured with cured and added with salt, oil, black gram and sesamum.

Pramathya

  1. Pippali, shunthi, Dhanyaka, bhutika (yavani, haritaki and vaca.
  2. Balaka, bhadramussa, bilva, shunthi, and dhanyaka
  3. Prasniparni, Goksurea, (lajjalu) and Kantakari.

Liquid gruel prepared is goats milk added with half water and processed with balaka, utpala, nagara (musta), prsmiparni checks bloody diarrhoea.

Paste

Juice

Juice is extracted from tender leaves of jambis, amr and Amalaki by poundingand added with goals milk. It should be taken mixed with honey to alleviate bloody diarrhoea.

Ghee

One taking satavari paste with milk and keeping on milk overcomes blood dia or so by taking ghee processed with it.
