Renal Calculus

Renal calculus or stone or lithiasis is a complex, multifactorial common disease. Urinary calculus is a stone like body composed of urinary salts bound together by a colloid matrix of organic material. It consists of a nucleus around which concentric layer of urinary salts are deposited.
Incidence
It occurs in 0.1-0.3% of the population, males being affected more than females. Predominantly in young individuals age 18-45 years with peaks in the late 20’s and early 30’s. it shows a familial predisposition.
Types
1. Primary stones:- These are those which appear in apparently healthy urinary tract without any antecedent inflammation. These are formed usually in acid urine. These are usually -
  • a) Calcium oxalate calculi
  • b) Uric acid calculi
  • c) Cystine calculi
  • d) Xanthine calculi
2. Secondary stones:- These are usually formed as a results of inflammation. The urine is usually alkaline, as urea splitting organisms are most often the causative organisms are most often the causative organism. These are usually :-
  • a) phosphate calculi
  • b) mixed stones

Ayurvedic treatment

It is divided into two categories :-
1. sanshodhana Chikitsa:-
  • a) Oleation
  • b) Sudation
  • c) Emesis
  • d) Purgation
  • e) Unctuous enema
2. Sanshamana Chikitsa:-
1) Juices:-
  • a) Kushmanda jucie mixed with yavakshara and jaggery.
  • b) Ikshvaku juice with yavakshara and jaggery.
2) Decoctions:-
  • a) Varunadi decoction
  • b) Virtaradi gana decoction
  • c) Shigru decoction
  • d) Eladi decoction
  • e) Varunshigru decoction
  • f) Nagradi decoction
  • g) Svadamshtradi decoction
  • h) Pashanbhedadyadi decoction
  • i) Ushakadigana decoction
  • j) Punarnavadi decoction
3. paste :-
Svandamshtradi paste
4. Churna :-
5. Ghrita:-
  • Pashanbhedadya ghrita
  • Kushadya ghrita
  • Varunadya ghrita
  • Sharadipanchamulyadi ghrita
  • Varuna ghrita
  • Katakadi ghrita
  • Sthiradi ghrita
6. Taila:-
  • Virataradya taila
  • Varunadya taila
7. Rasa preparations:-
  • Pashanbhinna rasa
  • Trivikrama rasa
  • Pashanvajra rasa
8. Tablets:-

3. Compatible diet :-
  • Take barley water
  • Use soup of kultha dal and moong dal
  • Use old shali rice, old ripened kushmanda
  • Use eggs of birds and animals living desert
  • Add ginger to food preparation
4. Incompatible diet:-
  • Dry rough and floury food
  • Sour preparation
  • rough and heavy food
  • Kharjura, lotus root, jambu, lotus stem and astringents.
5. Compatible regimen :-
  • Have a play in water
  • Apply sudation on concerned area
  • Have tub bath
6. incompatible regimen: -
  • Physical exercise
  • Suppression of urges
  • Day sleep
  • Exposure to wind and sun.
