PsychosisSeveral historical writings describe mentally unsound state. The term “Unmada” denoting insanity first appeared in atharvaveda, believed to be wrirren around 1500 B.C. A Thounsand year later, Samhitas documented the clinical subtypes of Unmada.

In Ayurveda, conditions such as Vataja Unmada, Pittaja Unmada, Kaphaja Unmada, corresponding to psychosis and depressive states have been described.
Unmada in Ayurveda is described as : Due to dushti of vatadi doshas these doshas cause mansik aaghat leading to psychosis like state.

The future oncologist may not be a surgeon or a gist who manipulates the cells in the laboratory and then do the extension of treatment. That is the way the systems go. I am very happy to see that Ayurveda is coming up with plans to establish a medical oncology. Allopathy, Ayurveda and Homeo systems of medicine are not competitors, however those who can do best for a patient, should be able to execute the specialty whatever it may be.

Ayurveda is a science of life established on the basis of practical experience and experimental grounds. Research is the utmost need for any science to withstand the test of time especially in terms of application and benefit for the society. The main aim of Ayurveda is to provide good quality life. That is why emphasis is given on preventive aspect.

Mankind is still suffering from much different type of diseases. Amavata is a disease of unknown aetiology affecting the joints particularly but no system in the body is exempted.
